Epiphyllum Oxypetalum, the Dutchman's pipe cactus, princess of the night or queen of the night, is a species of cactus. It rarely blooms and only at night, and its flowers wilt before dawn. Usually my plant only produces a single flower at a time. Tonight I feel lucky to have 2 flowers blooming at the same time.
This book, Romance in Malaya, published by Nanyang Press Singapore in 1956 carried 16 short stories, one of which, entitled, "Ten Years of Life by the Riverside" was written by my late father. The short story was a reminiscence of 10 years of his life and his experiences with the local culture, in different areas of the country, which all happened to be by some riverside.
My late father had frequently contributed short stories and articles to local newspapers. But we were too young then to know what he wrote about and too young then to have made any attempt to keep what he wrote.

It may sound ridiculous that I miss my plants if they were given away, often wondering if they are doing well.
A diminutive, highly independent girl, that's my only daughter. Had a tiny birthday celebration for her at home on 8 September 2021 .
I had been nurturing this plant for about 2 years but only
recently did I know that the Callisia Repens or Pink Lady is a succulent! She
enjoys direct sunlight, or bright indirect light, to keep her pretty pink
variegated leaves. Callisia Repens are very hardy in the right conditions.
Definitely my current favourite plant.

Eid al-Fitri marks the end of the month-long fast observed by Muslims all over the world. This year, just like last year, we only had a quiet celebration with immediate family members. To avoid the spread of Covid 19, for the second year running, we have to observe the SOP of not receiving any guest. We definitely miss having our friends and relatives in the house.

This lady went into a coma because of a blood clot in the brain. At the same time the doctors discovered that she was 4 months pregnant. After much consultations family members and the doctors decided to abort the fetus to give the mother a better chance of survival. At this point of time the mother suddenly opened her eyes and used her tears to express her objection. She only stopped tearing when the family and doctors agreed to proceed with the pregnancy. For the next 5 months she continued to be in a comatose state. When the baby attained full term a C section was performed, with the odds against the mother's survival . Against all odds both mother and child were safe. The mother even managed a hand gestured a V sign when she was being pushed out the operating room. Now she has still not fully recovered but always so happy when she sees her baby.
